You can keep adopting new policies and programs, but you will keep getting the same results if you don’t prioritize recruiting and retaining the most qualified teachers…that includes increasing capacity and efficacy, but also strong leadership, a positive and collaborative school and community climate, and a livable wage and benefits. This was especially important since a coaching model was new to the district when I first started. We sent it out via email and posted it outside the office. I created a QR code attached to a Google Form for teachers to request support. This year, I am trying to encourage more teachers to reach out by offering shorter cycles and adding in an incentive. It’s sometimes hard to not feel discouraged when people don’t seem as excited to collaborate as you are.
